There are many practical applications of airborne and ground gamma ray spectrometric surveys. These have evolved since the early years following the discovery of radioactivity, from uranium-only exploration to an impressive list of commodities in various geological settings and mapping of a variety of geological bedrock and overburden types. Applications now include important contributions to environmental, health and safety, and emergency response issues.
